OUR MISSION
Left on Read Bookstore exists to amplify representation, cultivate perspective, and empower community through books, storytelling, and intentional gathering. As an independent bookstore rooted in community, we are committed to showing up thoughtfully and sustainably for the people and causes we serve.
OUR APPROACH TO GIVING
Like many independent bookstores across the country, Left on Read must be intentional and measured in our giving in order to keep our doors open and remain an active part of our community. For that reason, we utilize a Partnership and Sponsorship application process to guide our decisions and ensure our support aligns with our mission and capacity.
While we are grateful for every request we receive, not all applications will result in a donation or partnership award. We sincerely extend best wishes to all organizations and initiatives pursuing important fundraising goals and community impact.
PRIORITY CONSIDERATIONS
Sponsorship and partnership requests are prioritized for:
● Organizations with a designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit status
● Organizations whose mission, values, and programming closely align with the mission of Left on Read
● Initiatives that amplify underrepresented voices, expand access to storytelling, or foster community education and dialogue
● Local and regional organizations with a demonstrated impact in the communities they serve
ELIGIBILITY AND VERIFICATION
Left on Read partnerships and sponsorships are entered into with the shared understanding that all parties will honor the purpose, energy, and intention behind our work. Supported partners are expected to engage in ways that align with our commitment to centering Black and Brown experiences, prioritizing community wellbeing, and practicing intentional, responsible storytelling.
Requests for sponsorships, donations, or partnerships must be submitted a minimum of eight (8) weeks in advance of the requested need or event date.
Proof of active 501(c)(3) status is required for all nonprofit applicants. Left on Read reserves the right to independently verify nonprofit status and confirm that the organization is active and in good standing. This may include a request for references.
Note: Submission of an application does not guarantee approval or support.
APPLICATION REVIEW AND NOTIFICATION
All requests are reviewed by Left on Read’s internal review team. Applications are assessed based on mission alignment, community impact, capacity, and timing. Decisions are made at the discretion of Left on Read.
Decisions regarding our giving and/or partnerships will be communicated as promptly as possible following internal review. To ensure an equitable and efficient process, we kindly ask that applicants refrain from contacting the bookstore to inquire about application status. All applicants, approved or not, will be notified using the contact information provided once a decision has been finalized.
RECOGNITION AND MESSAGING
Left on Read values transparency and shared storytelling. When a partnership, sponsorship, or in-kind donation is approved, Left on Read should be acknowledged in a mutually agreed-upon way. We aim to uplift the initiatives, organizations, and causes we support while ensuring accurate representation of our brand, mission, and level of support. To support that, partners are asked to coordinate with our team on public acknowledgments, including the use of our name, logo, or other branded materials across websites, social media, print, or promotional content.
BULK PURCHASE ORDERING
For schools, nonprofits, and community organizations with a clear educational or mission-aligned purpose, Left on Read may offer a bulk purchase ordering option.
This option allows eligible organizations to purchase books in volume at a discounted rate, typically at or near cost. These arrangements are designed to support access and programming rather than generate profit and are offered on a limited, case-by-case basis.
Bulk orders are not guaranteed and are subject to review based on alignment, scope, availability, and operational capacity. Approval, pricing, timelines, and minimum quantities are determined at Left on Read’s discretion.
Organizations interested in exploring this option may indicate their request through the application form. If eligible, additional details will be shared and a follow-up conversation may be scheduled.
