Left on Read offers an intimate setting for small, intentional gatherings, meetings, content creation, and community-centered use. After reviewing the following guidelines to assess overall fit, email read@leftonreadbooks.com with your preferred dates and times, estimated guest count or team size, and a brief description of your intended use to begin the booking process.​

Short-Form Content Creation

Left on Read is available for short-form content creation including photography, video recording, podcast segments, and brand visuals. Content sessions are intended for focused use of the space rather than gatherings or events.

 

Up to four people may be present unless otherwise approved. Sessions are available in 30- or 60-minute increments and must be scheduled in advance based on store operations and existing rentals.

30 minutes: $40
60 minutes: $70

All equipment must be self-contained. Tripods, small lighting setups, and handheld equipment are welcome. Large-scale production equipment or anything requiring installation must be approved in advance.

 

Content created in the space must align with the mission and integrity of Left on Read. Extended sessions, larger productions, and groups of four or more require a standard space rental. To request a content session, email read@leftonreadbooks.com with your preferred date, timeframe, number of people, and a brief description of the content you plan to capture.

Standard Space Rental

The space accommodates up to 36 seated guests without tables. Three card tables and one 6-foot table are available upon request. To preserve time during the rental period, hosts are encouraged to visit the store in advance to assess overall fit and map the desired room setup and logistics.

 

Our standard rental rate is $100 per hour with a two-hour minimum. Gatherings requiring the store to close during regular business hours are considered on a case-by-case basis and are $150 per hour with a two-hour minimum. Rental time includes guest setup and cleanup. Additional time may be added at $25 per 15-minute increment, based on availability.

Hosts are responsible for all setup, cleanup, and technology needs. A 65-inch television with Apple AirPlay is available for use. Guest-provided refreshments are welcome. Left on Read does not provide food service, utensils, or serving equipment. Trash and all items brought into the space must be removed at the conclusion of the rental period.

Space Use & Décor Guidelines


To protect the space, smoking, open flames, and wall-mounted décor are not permitted. All decorations must be free-standing. Nothing may be taped, hung, nailed, or otherwise attached to walls or shelving. Balloons must be properly secured or weighted due to ceiling height and airflow within the space.

There is no kitchen access or refrigeration available. Hosts are encouraged to bring coolers for cold items and warming devices for hot food if needed. All food and beverages must remain in designated areas. A protective barrier (e.g., tablecloth, placemats) is required under all serving dishes. Food and drinks may not be placed on bookshelves or retail displays.

Timing, Staffing, & Building Use


All events must end on time in consideration of shared building use and staff schedules. Every event is attended by a Left on Read staff member to support the experience. While present, we operate with discretion and respect your privacy.

Payment, Rescheduling, & Fees


Full payment plus a $50 refundable incidentals hold are required to confirm and hold a date. The incidentals hold is released after the event, once the space is confirmed to be in its original condition.

Rentals are non-refundable. One reschedule is permitted with at least 48 hours’ notice and must be used within 60 days of the original date. Reservations must be made at least 30 days in advance.

 

If approved, requests made less than 30 days before the desired date are subject to a $50 last-minute booking fee.

Damages & Additional Charges


Renters are responsible for leaving the space in its original condition. Any damages, excessive cleaning needs, or failure to follow rental guidelines will result in additional charges billed to the renter.

Left on Read exists to center and uplift the experiences of Black and Brown communities. By renting the space, hosts and guests agree to engage respectfully and in alignment with its purpose.

 

Left on Read reserves the right to refuse, cancel, or discontinue any event or remove individuals whose actions compromise safety, disrupt the environment, or conflict with the mission and integrity of the space.​
